Harlequin
Haven Great Dane Rescue
2004 Annual Report
Harlequin Haven Great Dane and Saint Bernard Rescue is a 501(c)3
nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing Great Danes and Saint
Bernards and placing them in suitable homes. HHGDR is a no-kill
rescue, and those animals which are not adopted will live out their
natural lives at the Rescue.
HHGDR has no paid employees. It is a volunteer organization, and is
solely dependent upon donations for income.
In the year 2004, the Rescue found homes for 64 Great Danes, 5 Saint Bernards, and 5 others
for a total for 74.
The year 2004 was an exciting year for the Rescue.
See an overview here.
Volunteers
participated in over 30 events, parades, fundraisers, etc. A very
special event was the Cincinnati Reds Opening Day Parade. Volunteers
came to the Rescue on Sunday, April 4, to groom the Saints for the
parade. On Monday, April 5, Saints from the Rescue, along with some of
our adopted Saints and their owners, marched in the parade to make a “21
Saint Salute to Marge.”
Fundraisers during the year included the Bark Park in Columbus, and
fundraisers for Ben and
Max in Dayton and Columbus. Two raffles were
held, one for Thanksgiving, and one for the winter holidays. These were all
very successful.
In August the Rescue received a $10,000 grant from PETsMART Charities to
be used for spaying and neutering the dogs coming into the Rescue.
Two vans were donated to the Rescue: a 1998 Ford Windstar minivan and a
1991 Chevy cargo van. A Land-Sea container was donated and installed to
be used as secure storage space for dog food. A six foot
privacy fence
was built, and a hydrotherapy pool installed.
