Harlequin Haven Great Dane Rescue

Hector
Updated November 3

When my owners no longer wanted me they dumped me in the night drop box at the Jackson County Animal Shelter. I guess they were ashamed of how they had cared for me or should I say the lack of care they had given me!! The wonderful Dog Warden immediately contacted Harlequin Haven and the next day they were there to get me!!

The great volunteers were so gentle and loving with me and the nice woman even hugged & kissed me and allowed me to snuggle with her during my transport. I was immediately taken to their vets office and I have a very serious case of Demodectic Mange but all are convinced I can be cured. The doctors said I should be well in 4 to 6 weeks, I can't wait!!

When I arrived at the rescue I assumed I would be tied up outside just as I had been (apparent by the rope burns on my rear legs) but instead I was given a bath and medicine was put on me then I was given a nice soft bed and lots of toys and even food ALL inside!! I was afraid at first but the woman (she told me to call her Grandma) told me it was okay!! I really like the toys that squeak!!

Well, Grandma told me my time on the computer is up and I need to rest so I can get well. I will write again soon letting all know my progress. I do want to Thank the Dog Warden for being so great in my short stay at his shelter and the volunteers that brought me to the rescue! Below are pictures Grandma took after I had my bath and medication applied, you can see I have little hair and lots of sores.

August 30: Grandma said if it wasn't for bad luck I would have no luck at all. I have now Parvo. Please keep me in your prayers. I am really going to need them with my already depleted immune system.

September 7: I am recuperating from the Parvo and am doing great! I especially love the special food I am getting because I did not want to eat at first. I love baked chicken!!!! Of course NOW Grandma says I have to start eating dog food again but I am trying not to!! Thank you for all the prayers!!

September 30: Sorry I have not updated my page lately I have been busy playing and enjoying life! Grandma said for a young dog with a depleted immune system I had the quickest Parvo recovery she had ever seen and the vets agreed! No one expected me to recover so quickly!! Unfortunately I am no longer fed baked chicken but hey it is worth it to feel so great again! I am also making a quick recovery from the mange, my hair is growing back in and I am gaining weight.

A picture has been added to show my improvement.

November 3: I continue to improve, it will not be long now till I am ready for adoption! I have already chosen my forever family and can not wait till I am adopted!! I am counting the days!!

Please can you spare a few dollars to help the Rescue continue to help me and other Danes like me it would be greatly  appreciated. Without the rescue who knows where we would have ended up!!
Thanks, Hector
